Open Week, 2010, was sailed in typical,
mixed August weather. Wind strengths seldom fell below F3, were F4 to 5 most of
the time and, too frequently for some, blew F6! Rain fell on several days and
the last day saw a torrential downpour. Challenging courses were set.
In spite of this there was an excellent
turnout of sailors with the Gaffers/Dayboats producing the largest fleet,
closely followed by the Handicap 1’s. There were fewer Sport 15’s and Fast
Catamarans than in previous years but the new Laser fleet was a success with
the mainly young sailors proving competitive and determined racers which bodes
well for the future.
The Club was pleased to welcome a number of
visitors who kept the home sailors on their toes.
The total number of boats sailing during
the Week was an excellent 65, well up on last year.
Thanks were given at the Prizegiving BBQ to
the Safety Boat and Galley Crews and to Richard Stone, Race Officer, Jen
Colenso and Jim Hebdon by Commodore, David Graham, who presented the prizes.
