Racing is beginning to pick up and in preparation for the season there are skills days on offer for Argos and Lasers for follow on and just sail - find more information in our calendar on the website. The Icicle Race Series continues, and our Wednesday night talks for cruisers has been increasing in popularity with some excellent speakers coming up.

CLUBHOUSE

In the clubhouse we've got regular delicious offerings during the week (carrot cake and bakewell anyone??) and after racing - book on before you race and enjoy a hot meal once you're off the water!

We're trialling a pop up food event with North Devon Hog Roast and Thorne Delights on Friday 8th March. If you've been to any local markets over the last couple of years you'll know that their hog roast is incredible - we can't wait to host them! This will be open to members of the public as well and they usually sell out so don't leave it too late to get dinner from their food truck and bring it into the club to enjoy with a glass of something cold and fizzy!

The RNLI Sausage sizzle, craft fair and sea shanty is also coming up on the 23rd - support a great cause and have a lot of fun doing it!

THE WRECKER PURSUIT RACE SUN 18TH FEB - S. FLEET

Eighteen boats, 10 from NDYC and 8 visitors, ventured out into a breezy (F4+) but damp and misty estuary for the 120 minute pursuit race.  With no Committee Boat on the water, a Start Line was established from the Timer Clock on top of the old Pill Box on Instow Pier to an Outer Distance Marker off Instow Beach.  The planned course was a down tide start to Inner Home then upwind to Skern and Inner Pulley followed by a long run to Puttermouth and a blast of a reach to Inner Home.  Regrettably, our Patrol Boat Pelican,  once on station at Skern, found the visibility to Inner Pulley was so poor and intermittent that this leg was abandoned.   The race started at 1115.  The leading boats managed to achieve just under 3 laps in the 120 minutes.   In a relatively close finish, the race was won by Luca Mitchel from Paignton SC sailing a RS Aero 7,  Second was Terry Curtis from Weymouth SC sailing an Osprey and Third was our own Chris Dyer sailing a Blaze.   Not awarded a prize, but a "Mention in Dispatches" must go to our own Eric Evans - with Silas Brand as his new crew, sailing a B14, for achieving the highest number of capsizes.  Typically for NDYC, the moment the race finished, the mist cleared and the sun came out.  Big thanks to Mark and Noah Dury for race start and recording and to Liam Bunclark, Alex Firth, John Barnett and Geoff Turner for Safety Boats. And thanks to the Galley team for the hot food.

Hello Curlew!

OUR NEW ADDITION!

Curlew was purchased with generous donations crowdfunded last year for 'Boats for kids'. With the successful long term loan of a fleet of Optimist dinghies we required a small, very robust powerboat that could be easily hand-launched. Curlew fits the description perfectly!

Curlew's main purpose will be to support younger sailors getting afloat in our smallest dinghies. It will also enable more young pirates and youth squad sessions as well as group training in Optimists during cadet weeks.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors - your generosity will directly impact our newest generation of water lovers!

THE BOATPARK

We have begun stickering small boats in current Winter Storage. Stickers for Summer Storage will be available from mid-March for collection during office hours (0900 - 1400 mon-fri) and during 'Over the Bar' 1900 - 2100.

Boats cannot be brought in for Summer Storage before April 15th.

Please note we will be following the Boat Park Capacity Policy (on the boat park noticeboard and website) in the instance that boats are unpaid or the owner cannot be identified. Please ensure your storage and membership fees are up to date and all craft are stickered appropriately.

**THE NDYC 2024 HANDBOOK**

Last, but absolutely not least, the NDYC 2024 Handbook is ready for distribution and available from the Clubhouse! We include a PDF version here for your enjoyment.

As ever this is a work in progress and we are aware the boat ownership section is not fully up to date. If you become aware of any errors in the handbook please do get in touch so we can keep making improvements.

It's a big one this month, thank you for reading. If you have any comments or anything you would like to discuss just pop in to see us or respond to this email.

Happy Sailing!

Katy & Eric
